This guide reveals the secrets to befriending the enigmatic Dwarf in Stardew Valley. While this solitary miner presents a unique challenge—requiring the player to learn Dwarvish—the reward is a fascinating addition to your in-game narrative.
Updated January 8, 2024: This guide reflects recent Stardew Valley updates (1.5 and 1.6), including changes to friendship mechanics and gift preferences.
Meeting the Dwarf
Locate the large boulder blocking access to the Dwarf's shop on the first floor of the mines. Destroy it using a copper pickaxe or a bomb to reveal his hidden dwelling.
Mastering Dwarvish
Communication with the Dwarf necessitates learning his language. Collect all four Dwarf Scrolls (artifacts) and donate them to the Museum. Gunther will then provide you with a Dwarvish translation guide. Return to the mines and converse with the Dwarf; now, you can understand him and access his shop.
Gift Giving: The Key to Friendship
Gifts are paramount to building friendship with the Dwarf. Remember, he accepts up to two gifts weekly. His birthday (Summer 22nd) multiplies friendship points earned from gifts by eight.
