Cookie Run: Kingdom's Version 5.6 update, "Dark Resolution's Glorious Return," is a double-edged sword. While boasting exciting new content, it also introduced a controversial change that sparked significant player backlash.
The update delivers a wealth of new additions: Dragon Lord Dark Cacao Cookie, an Ancient+ rarity Charge-type Cookie with a powerful Awakened King skill; Peach Blossom Cookie, a new Epic Support Cookie; and a new World Exploration episode continuing Dark Cacao Cookie's story. A special Nether-Gacha increases the chances of acquiring Dragon Lord Dark Cacao Cookie.
However, the introduction of the Ancient+ rarity, a tier above the existing ten rarities, proved highly unpopular. This new rarity, with a maximum 6-star promotion, necessitates further investment and progression, frustrating many players, particularly newer ones. The community perceived this as prioritizing the monetization of new characters over the enhancement of existing ones.
The negative reaction was swift and intense. Korean players and prominent guilds threatened boycotts, prompting the developers to postpone the June 20th launch to reconsider the Ancient+ system. The developers’ response to community feedback indicates a willingness to adjust the update before release. The situation highlights the importance of developer-community communication and the potential impact of monetization strategies on player satisfaction. The future of the Ancient+ rarity remains uncertain, pending the developers' revised plans.
