Conquering Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide
One of the initial hurdles in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the formidable Zhang Jiao, leader of the Yellow Turbans. This guide details strategies for overcoming his two-phase battle.
Phase 1: A Solo Showdown
This phase is a one-on-one duel in a spacious wasteland. Zhang Jiao employs sorcery, launching projectiles across the arena. His attacks vary based on your distance:
- Close Range: He summons four stones, demanding swift evasion.
- Long Range: He unleashes eight stones in pairs, easily dodged by circling him.
Maintain a safe distance when he summons numerous stones to avoid heavy damage. While primarily a ranged fighter, he also utilizes close-combat combos (parryable) and an area-of-effect (AOE) pushback attack. A white glow signals his AOE charge; evade promptly.
Later, he employs unblockable attacks (red aura), including a massive rockfall and clone summoning. The best counter is to maintain distance until the attack concludes. Equip a sword for optimal damage output.
Resource Management is Crucial: You likely have limited healing opportunities (around four uses). Utilize the meat buns near the arena entrance for replenishment during your tactical retreats.
Phase 2: Aided Assault
Activating Musou Rage initiates Phase 2, introducing Yellow Turban reinforcements alongside your own army. Use this respite to heal. Zhang Jiao introduces tornadoes, so navigate the battlefield carefully while eliminating his troops.
He'll attempt a Grand Tactic, requiring you to defeat 300 soldiers within a short timeframe to avoid a devastating attack. Simultaneously, he unleashes lightning strikes indicated by a closing ring; evade when it flashes. Musou Mode (basic, not Rage) is highly effective for quickly eliminating large groups of soldiers.
Successfully thwarting his Grand Tactic twice brings Zhang Jiao back to the battlefield with Phase 1 tactics. However, with your army's support, defeating him should be significantly easier, concluding Chapter 1.
Victory is Yours!
Master these strategies and you'll successfully conquer Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, available now on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
