Street Fighter 6 welcomes a new fighter, reigniting player interest. The game, a Capcom success story boasting 4.4 million copies sold by December 31st, 2024, has seen a surge in popularity thanks to the addition of Mai Shiranui from the Fatal Fury franchise.
This marks the third character release in the game's second season. Mai's arrival significantly boosted Street Fighter 6's player base, with Steam's peak concurrent players exceeding 63,000 on her release day—a substantial increase from the previous peak of 24-27,000 and the best since May 2024.
Access to Mai is granted through the Battle Pass. World Tour mode allows players to cultivate a relationship with Mai, learn her moves, and subsequently test them in Battle Hub. A second costume, inspired by her Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves appearance, has also been added.
Further enhancing the Battle Hub experience is the temporary addition of Professor Woshige, a renowned fighting game developer, available until March 10th. The update also includes new Master League ranks and rewards.
Capcom showcased Mai's fighting style and techniques in a dedicated trailer.
