Marvel Rivals: PvE Mode Still Uncertain, But NetEase Exploring Options
While Marvel Rivals is a relatively new game, player anticipation for significant additions is already high. Recent speculation about a potential PvE boss fight fueled rumors of an upcoming PvE mode. However, NetEase recently clarified that a full-fledged PvE mode isn't currently in the works.
At the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we spoke with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu about the possibility of a PvE mode. Wu stated that while there are no current plans, the development team is actively experimenting with new gameplay modes. The team will introduce a new mode if it meets their standards for fun and engagement.
Following this statement, Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo inquired about my personal preference for a PvE mode. After expressing my interest, Wu elaborated, suggesting that a hardcore PvE experience would significantly differ from the game's current design. The team is exploring various approaches, including potentially a less intensive, "lighter" mode, to determine the best fit for Marvel Rivals.
Therefore, while no concrete PvE plans exist, NetEase hints at exploring "lighter" PvE-style options, possibly limited-time events or similar additions. Further details remain undisclosed.
Marvel Rivals continues to receive updates every six weeks, introducing new characters. The Human Torch and The Thing are slated to join the roster on February 21st. Separate conversations with Wu and Koo also covered potential Nintendo Switch 2 release and the topic of whether or not the developers were intentionally misleading dataminers with false hero "leaks" in the game's code. (Further details on these topics can be found in a separate article.)
