Marvel Rivals, the acclaimed hero shooter, is a smash hit on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, developer NetEase has consistently stated it won't launch on the original Nintendo Switch due to performance limitations. But what about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?
Recently, at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we spoke with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu. He revealed that a Switch 2 release is a strong possibility. Wu explained: "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working with their development kits. If we can deliver a high-quality experience on the Switch 2, we're definitely open to it. The original Switch couldn't provide the performance needed for our game. Meeting that performance standard is key to a Switch 2 release."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially unveiled last month. While specifics are scarce, it's expected to be a more powerful console with enhanced capabilities. Interestingly, it appears to incorporate mouse-like controls, potentially offering a more PC-like shooter experience for games like Marvel Rivals. The exact implementation remains to be seen.
The Nintendo Switch 2 lacks a confirmed release date, though a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2nd. Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms and has received positive reception. Our 8/10 review praised the game, stating it "might closely follow established hero shooters, but it's well-positioned to become the genre's leader." The Human Torch and The Thing are slated to join the roster on February 21st.
