Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has cancelled the physical release of the game for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. The cancellation, announced via X (formerly Twitter), cites technical challenges related to multilingual European localization.
A String of Postponements Leads to Cancellation
While initially slated for a March 2023 release, the European physical edition faced multiple delays, pushing the launch to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally January 2025. Pre-orders on sites like Amazon were repeatedly rescheduled before the ultimate cancellation announcement. Meridiem Games offered no further details beyond the initial statement regarding localization difficulties.
This news has understandably upset fans, especially given the anticipated availability of the game in Spanish and other European languages. While a digital version remains accessible, European players seeking a physical copy are now limited to importing the US version.
About Omori
Omori is a critically acclaimed RPG following Sunny, a young boy grappling with the aftermath of a traumatic event. The game seamlessly blends reality and Sunny's dream world, where he adopts the persona of Omori. Initially released on PC in December 2020, it expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was subsequently removed due to a past, inappropriate T-shirt design sold by the developer, OMOCAT.
