Capcom's recent remake of Resident Evil 4 has achieved phenomenal success, surpassing 9 million copies sold since its release. This milestone follows the game's earlier achievement of 8 million sales and is likely boosted by the February 2023 release of the Gold Edition and a late 2023 iOS launch.
The remake, launched in March 2023, features Leon S. Kennedy's mission to rescue the President's daughter from a dangerous cult. A significant departure from the series' survival horror roots, Resident Evil 4's remake leans more heavily into action-oriented gameplay.
The CapcomDev1 Twitter account celebrated the achievement with celebratory artwork showcasing beloved characters like Ada, Krauser, and Saddler. A recent update further enhanced the game's performance, particularly for PS5 Pro users.
Anticipation for Future Resident Evil Remakes
Resident Evil 4's rapid sales success, surpassing even Resident Evil Village's early performance (500,000 copies in its eighth quarter), has fueled fan excitement for future Capcom projects. Many anticipate a Resident Evil 5 remake, potentially following the precedent set by the relatively close releases of the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. However, other titles like Resident Evil 0 and CODE: Veronica, crucial to the overall narrative, are also strong contenders for a modern update. Naturally, the announcement of a Resident Evil 9 would also be highly welcomed by the fanbase.
