Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are teaming up for a big-screen adaptation of the hit video game, Helldivers 2. The exciting announcement was made at CES 2025 by Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions. While specifics remain under wraps, Qizilbash confirmed the project's commencement, promising fans spectacular space battles on the silver screen.
Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a critically acclaimed shooter drawing inspiration from the classic Starship Troopers. The game achieved phenomenal success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. Its popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original Helldivers.
Further expanding their cinematic universe, PlayStation Productions and Columbia Pictures (the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted film) are also collaborating on a Horizon Zero Dawn movie. Qizilbash offered an initial glimpse into this project, stating, "We're in the early stages of development for the Horizon Zero Dawn film, but we can assure audiences that this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic treatment."
