Following its global reveal at the recent State of Play, Tides of Annihilation unveils an extended gameplay trailer showcasing its high-octane combat. Dive deeper into this upcoming action title.
Exploring a Post-Apocalyptic London
First shown at PlayStation's State of Play, the action-adventure game Tides of Annihilation generated significant buzz with its newly released extended gameplay trailer. The trailer features protagonist Gwendolyn and her shape-shifting sword companion, Niniane, navigating the ruins of a devastated, otherworldly London, ravaged by an Outworld invasion. Their journey through the decaying city is fraught with perilous encounters. Gwendolyn possesses the unique ability to summon a formidable force of over ten legendary knights, inspired by the Arthurian legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.
After overcoming numerous enemies and traversing a magical portal, the duo confronts Mordred in an epic boss battle. This clash highlights the game's dynamic combat system, underscored by a haunting choral score.
According to producer Kun Fu on PlayStation.Blog, the battle system offers "intuitive co-op combat within a single-player experience." Players can summon two spectral knights at a time, each with unique combat roles, requiring strategic choices based on the situation. "The interaction between Gwendolyn and the knights creates a dynamic, fast-paced, and deeply engaging combat experience. It's a system our team (veterans from leading game studios) fell in love with during internal playtests."
Echoes of Devil May Cry and Bayonetta
Online comments praise the game's art direction, style, fluid hack-and-slash combat, and overall gameplay, drawing comparisons to classics like Devil May Cry (DMC) and Bayonetta, as well as titles such as Elden Ring, NieR: Automata, Stellar Blade, and Final Fantasy 16. The trailer has ignited considerable excitement, with many expressing anticipation and confirming their intention to purchase the game upon release.
Tides of Annihilation is the debut title from Chengdu-based Eclipse Glow Games, blending Arthurian mythology with an alternate reality modern London. Players assume the role of Gwendolyn, a survivor of an apocalyptic event. While a precise release date is yet to be announced, the game is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
