Cattle Country: A Wild West Farming Sim Coming to Steam
Steam's upcoming game, Cattle Country, promises a captivating experience for fans of farming and life sims, drawing strong comparisons to the beloved Stardew Valley. While sharing Stardew Valley's focus on farm-based income generation, Cattle Country introduces a unique Wild West setting.
Castle Pixel, the independent developer behind Cattle Country, has a history of game development dating back to 2014, with titles like the 2D platformer Rex Rocket also available on Steam. Their recent release, Blossom Tales 2: The Minotaur Prince, showcased a classic fantasy adventure style reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda. Cattle Country marks their first foray into the farming simulation genre.
Described on Steam as a "Cozy Cowboy Adventure Life Sim," Cattle Country blends familiar farming mechanics with a fresh Western twist. Players will build a mountain home, contribute to the local town's growth, and cultivate relationships with villagers, mirroring the social elements of Stardew Valley.
Cattle Country's Distinctive Western Flair
The game's most striking feature is its Old West setting. The reveal trailer showcases scenes of nighttime cattle herding around a campfire, and a horse-drawn wagon traversing a dusty road. Additional footage on the Steam page depicts more action-packed moments, including a Wild West shootout with bandits and a bare-knuckle brawl in a makeshift arena. Mining is also featured, presented in a 2D style reminiscent of Terraria.
Familiar farming activities, such as planting and harvesting crops, using scarecrows, and chopping trees, will be included. The game also hints at festivals similar to Stardew Valley's, but with original twists like a Santa Claus-led Christmas feast and a traditional square dance.
While a release date remains unannounced, Cattle Country is currently available for wishlisting on Steam.
