Long winter nights call for the perfect gaming companion: RPGs! These immersive adventures offer beautiful worlds, deep mechanics, and countless hours of gameplay. This list highlights some of the best Android RPGs available, excluding gacha titles (check our separate gacha list for those). We've focused on premium games with complete, readily accessible content.
Top Android RPGs:
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2
A classic, now optimized for touchscreens. KOTOR 2 is a massive, engaging adventure brimming with memorable characters and that quintessential Star Wars feel. A controversial top pick, perhaps, but undeniably brilliant.
Neverwinter Nights
For those who prefer fantasy to sci-fi, Neverwinter Nights offers a dark, immersive journey through the Forgotten Realms. Beamdog's enhanced edition of this BioWare classic is a must-have.
Dragon Quest VIII
Often cited as the best Dragon Quest game, and our top mobile JRPG pick. Square Enix's careful port ensures smooth portrait-mode gameplay, perfect for on-the-go adventures.
Chrono Trigger
A legendary JRPG, now on mobile. While perhaps not the ideal way to experience this classic, the mobile port is a worthy option if other versions aren't accessible.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions
A timeless strategy RPG that remains incredibly fun today. A strong contender for the ultimate strategy RPG title, and certainly a mobile standout.
The Banner Saga
A dark, strategic RPG series (note: the third installment requires a different platform). Imagine a blend of Game of Thrones and Fire Emblem – challenging and deeply engaging.
Pascal’s Wager
A top-tier action RPG, not just on mobile, but overall. This dark, hack-and-slash adventure is packed with content and innovative ideas.
Grimvalor
A superb side-scrolling Metroidvania RPG with stunning visuals and a Souls-like progression system. A recent release that shouldn't be missed.
Oceanhorn
The best non-Zelda game we've encountered, and a visual masterpiece on mobile. (Sadly, the sequel is Apple Arcade exclusive.)
The Quest
An often-overlooked first-person dungeon crawler inspired by classics like Might & Magic. Hand-drawn visuals and regular expansions add to its enduring appeal.
Final Fantasy (Series)
No RPG discussion is complete without mentioning Final Fantasy. Several excellent titles from the series (VII, IX, VI, and others) are available on Android.
9th Dawn III RPG
Despite the name, this is the third installment, and a refined RPG experience. A massive top-down game with extensive exploration, loot, monster recruitment, and even a card game within the game.
Titan Quest
A Diablo-style hack-and-slash from the past, now on mobile. While the port isn't perfect, it's a decent option if you're craving this type of action.
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
A fantastic RPG series based on Norse mythology. Lenneth is particularly well-suited for mobile play, with convenient save-anywhere functionality.
