With a vast array of characters to choose from, deciding which ones to focus on can be challenging. To help you navigate this, we've crafted an AFK Journey character tier list that ranks heroes based on their performance across various game modes.

AFK Journey Tier List

Before diving into the tier list, it's important to note that most characters in AFK Journey are viable for general gameplay. However, some heroes shine brighter in the more demanding endgame scenarios. This tier list ranks characters based on their versatility, overall utility, and effectiveness in PvE, Dream Realm, and PvP environments.

S-Tier Characters

The S-Tier features the cream of the crop, with Lily May being a standout addition to AFK Journey. She's a must-pull for Wilder teams, offering significant damage and utility as a rogue-type character. Her ability to counter Eironn teams in PvP, push AFK stages, and replace characters like Korin or Marilee in Dream Realm boss teams makes her a priority wishlist addition.

Thoran remains the top choice for free-to-play (F2P) tanks, especially if you're still building Phraesto. Reinier continues to be the go-to support for Hypogeand and Celestials, excelling in both PvE and PvP scenarios.

For additional support, Koko and Smokey and Meerky are essential builds. Smokey and Meerky are versatile across all game modes, while Odie is crucial for Dream Realm and PvE content. In the Arena, combining Eironn with Damien and Arden forms a formidable team.

As of November 2024, Tasi joins the roster as another versatile Wilder character, excelling in crowd control across most game modes except Dream Realm, where Plague Creeper might change her effectiveness. Harak, a Hypogean/Celestial Warrior, becomes more powerful as battles progress, gaining Attack and Defense upon enemy kills and benefiting from Life Drain.

A-Tier Characters

A-Tier characters are strong but may not be as universally effective as their S-Tier counterparts. Lyca and Vala leverage the Haste stat effectively, which is crucial in AFK Journey for increasing attack and skill frequency, as well as boosting movement speed. Lyca boosts party Haste temporarily, while Vala stacks it upon killing marked enemies.

Antandra is a solid tank alternative to Thoran, offering taunts, shields, and crowd control. For those with Thoran and Cecia, Viperian can enhance the Graveborn core with his Energy-draining and AoE capabilities.

Alsa, added in May 2024, is a promising DPS mage, fitting well into meta PvP compositions without Carolina, especially alongside Eironn. Phraesto, introduced in June 2024, is a sturdy tank but lacks in damage output. Ludovic, added in August 2024, is a versatile Graveborn healer, particularly effective with Talene in PvP. Cecia, once a top-tier DPS, has been moved to A-tier due to shifts in the game's meta. Sonja, introduced in December 2024, boosts the Lightborne faction with her damage output and utility, though she's not a must-pull.

B-Tier Characters

B-Tier characters are reliable placeholders until you can secure higher-tier heroes. Valen and Brutus are solid early-game DPS options, with Brutus' spinning AoE attack being particularly useful. Granny Dahnie serves as a decent tank for those without Thoran or Antandra, offering debuffs and heals.

Arden and Damian, while not optimal for PvE, are meta staples in PvP when paired with Eironn, Carolina, and Thoran. Florabelle, added in April 2024, supports Cecia at Mythic+ but requires significant investment. Soren, introduced in May 2024, performs decently in PvP but falls short in PvE compared to other options. Korin has been downgraded to B-tier due to changes in Dream Realm dynamics, with Odie now being the preferred DPS choice.

C-Tier Characters

C-Tier characters are useful early on but quickly become outdated past AFK level 100. Parisa, with her powerful AoE attack, is a good temporary mage, especially in some PvP scenarios, but should be replaced as soon as possible.
