2025 is shaping up to be a monumental year for DC's Batman. Chip Zdarsky's run concludes with Batman #157, making way for Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee's Hush 2 in March. Following Hush 2, a relaunched Batman #1 will debut with a new writer, Matt Fraction (known for Uncanny X-Men and The Invincible Iron Man), and a fresh look. Returning artist Jorge Jimenez has collaborated with Fraction on a redesigned costume and Batmobile. The new suit trades the classic black and gray for a vintage-inspired blue and gray palette. See the new Batsuit below:
"Batman was the first comic I ever read," Fraction shared. "Jorge and I are taking a very superhero-centric approach. We have a new Batmobile, costume, new and returning characters—all the elements that make Batman iconic. We aim to celebrate it all." Batman #1 launches in September 2025.
DC also unveiled plans for their Superman titles at ComicsPro, continuing their "Summer of Superman" event. Supergirl receives a new series and costume (designed by Stanley "Artgerm" Lau), written and drawn by Sophie Campbell (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). This new series returns Kara to Midvale.
"I've primarily worked on self-written and drawn graphic novels, so working on Supergirl feels like a return to my roots," Campbell explained. "My inspiration for Kara Zor-El comes from 70s stories, the 1984 Supergirl movie, and the CW show. This version of Supergirl will draw on those influences." Supergirl #1 arrives May 14th.
Action Comics gains a new creative team: Mark Waid (Justice League Unlimited) and artist Skylar Patridge. This run focuses on Clark Kent's teenage years in Smallville, exploring his early experiences with his powers as Superboy.
"The book begins with 15-year-old Clark learning to be a superhero," Waid stated. "What are the challenges of managing powers at that age? Skylar and I are modernizing Smallville—it retains its rustic charm, but farms look different now." Waid and Patridge's Action Comics #1087 launches in June.
Finally, Krypto gets his own five-issue miniseries, Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton, as part of the DC All In initiative. Written by Ryan North (Fantastic Four) and illustrated by Mike Norton (Revival), this series delves deeper into Krypto's origin story than ever before.
"Krypto's origin has always been somewhat superficial," North commented. "He's from Krypton, ends up on Earth, and fights crime. Exploring what a lost dog would experience on Earth was appealing. We're portraying Krypto as a dog—he doesn't talk, and we avoid using thought bubbles. Mike Norton's art perfectly captures what needs to be conveyed." Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton #1 releases June 18th.
ComicsPro also revealed Marvel's summer relaunch of *Captain America*, written by Zdarsky and drawn by Valerio Schiti. A preview of Godzilla's new interconnected comic universe is also available.
