Fallout 76 Season 20 plunges players into the irradiated heart of Appalachia, offering the thrilling opportunity to become a Ghoul. This update, released March 18th, introduces a wealth of ghoul-themed features, mechanics, and cosmetics, allowing for a complete C.A.M.P. redesign.
Unleash Your Inner Ghoul
Fallout 76's latest update lets you embrace your inner ghoul through the "Ghoulification" process, unlocked via the "Leap of Faith" questline. This journey takes you to a new area of the Savage Divide, where you'll encounter unique characters aiding your transformation. Becoming a ghoul grants access to exclusive abilities – Glow and Feral – and a whopping 30 new Ghoul-exclusive Perks (Bethesda calls them "Gherks").
The Feral ability replaces hunger and thirst, offering stat boosts based on your Feral meter. However, letting it deplete to 0% unleashes dramatic gameplay changes: +150% Melee Damage, but at the cost of -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, and a crippling -300% reduction to hip-fire and V.A.T.S. accuracy.
The Glow ability allows you to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and—as the name suggests—making you glow. It also boosts maximum health, heals damage, and contributes to unlocking Ghoul-exclusive Perks.
Choose from 28 Perks and 2 new legendary perks designed specifically for Ghouls. Note that Perks related to hunger, thirst, and chemical resistance are unavailable to Ghouls, as these needs are no longer relevant.
A Ghoul's Life in Appalachia
Ghoulification makes navigating the irradiated wasteland significantly easier, thanks to the new abilities and Perks. However, factions like the Brotherhood of Steel remain hostile towards Ghouls, potentially locking you out of certain quests.
Fortunately, a new NPC, Jaye, provides disguises, allowing interaction with previously inaccessible content. Should you tire of ghoul life, you can revert to human form via the Character Screen. This transformation is irreversible; re-becoming a ghoul requires purchasing Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms.
Level 50 Character Boost & Season 20 Patch Notes
Season 20 also introduces a Level 50 Character Boost, available for 1500 Atoms. This provides significant advantages, allowing immediate access to Daily Ops, Public Events, and parts of the main storyline.
The patch includes numerous bug fixes and balance adjustments, encompassing accessibility improvements, combat balancing, weapon damage tweaks, and more. Bethesda also reminds players of the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update on April 29th.
Since its initially rocky launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has seen consistent updates. Season 20 contributes to its current "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam (76% positive reviews). Fallout 76 is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
