Acquiring the Flare Knife
The Flare Knife is surprisingly accessible early in the game. Once you achieve Level 003 Code Clearance, visit Zakka in The Warren. This vendor sells a range of combat items, including the Flare Knife, for 3,000 Entitlement Points. Equip it via the Loadout menu in the Personal Responsibility Portal, selecting an available Combat Item slot.
Utilizing the Flare Knife in Combat
The Flare Knife is specifically designed for severing Abductor limbs. This makes it a valuable tool for players who prefer Polearms or Heavy Melee weapons, bypassing the need for Light Melee weapons to achieve this crucial tactic. Keep in mind, it's a single-use item; repurchase is necessary for subsequent Operations.
To employ the Flare Knife, target the severable Abductor part and use your Thorn to grapple onto it. With the Flare Knife equipped, a severing option appears, initiating a quick-time event (QTE). Rapidly pressing the designated button depletes a progress bar; successful completion severs the limb. However, be aware that the Abductor might interrupt the process by leaping or crashing.
Cooperative play enhances the Flare Knife's effectiveness. Teammates can repeatedly snare the Abductor, significantly simplifying the severing process.
