Best PlayStation Plus Games (January 2025)

Sony's revamped PlayStation Plus launched in North America on June 13, 2022, offering three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. These tiers combine the previous PS Plus with PS Now, providing varying levels of access to online play, free games, and a vast game library.

  • PlayStation Plus Essential ($9.99/month): This is the equivalent of the original PS Plus, offering online multiplayer access, monthly free games, and exclusive member discounts.
  • PlayStation Plus Extra ($14.99/month): Builds upon Essential, adding access to a catalog of hundreds of PS4 and PS5 games.
  • PlayStation Plus Premium ($17.99/month): Includes all Essential and Extra benefits, plus a library of classic games from PS1, PS2, PSP, and PS3, game trials, and cloud streaming (in select regions).

PlayStation Plus Premium boasts over 700 games spanning PlayStation's history. Navigating this extensive library can be challenging, so highlighting key titles before subscribing is beneficial. Sony regularly adds new games, primarily PS4 and PS5 releases, occasionally supplemented by classic titles.

Updated January 5, 2025, by Mark Sammut: PlayStation Plus has announced its Essential games for early 2025. While opinions on the selection vary, at least one title is considered a true classic.

Our rankings consider both game quality and their PS Plus addition date. Newly added games will be featured prominently, with PS Plus Essential titles highlighted first.

Notable Games Leaving PS Plus Extra & Premium in January 2025

While the January 2025 lineup for PS Plus Extra and Premium remains to be fully seen, several significant titles are departing on January 21st. Here are the most notable removals:

  • Resident Evil 2: Capcom's 2019 remake of the PS1 classic is widely considered one of the best in the series. This survival horror masterpiece features two compelling campaigns, challenging puzzles, and intense encounters with terrifying creatures. While completing both campaigns before its removal may be difficult, a single playthrough is certainly achievable.
  • Dragon Ball FighterZ: From Arc System Works, this fighting game stands out due to its accessible yet deep combat system and the beloved Dragon Ball license. While the online component is a strong draw, the single-player arcs, though enjoyable, can become repetitive after a while.
  1. The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe (January 2025 PS Plus Essential)

Available from January 7th to February 3rd
