DC Comics has announced Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series debuting in May 2025, marking the return of acclaimed Marvel writer Dan Slott to DC. Slott, known for his work on Marvel titles like The Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four, spent two decades exclusively with Marvel, but his earlier DC credits include Arkham Asylum: Living Hell and Batman Adventures. This new series reunites him with the DC universe.
Superman Unlimited pairs Slott with artist Rafael Albuquerque (known for American Vampire) and colorist Marcelo Maiolo.
“He’s the greatest superhero of all time, and I’ve waited my whole life to tell his stories,” Slott stated. “Not just because of his powers, but who he is. Rafael Albuquerque and I will take him—and you—to surprising places each month. Expect millions of ideas for Superman, Lois, the supporting cast, classic villains, and brand-new friends and foes. Whether you’re a lifelong Superman fan or a newcomer to comics, Superman Unlimited #1 is the perfect jumping-on point.”
The series introduces a perilous new status quo. A Kryptonite asteroid shower blankets the planet with Green K, empowering enemies like Intergang with Kryptonite-enhanced weaponry. Superman must develop new technology and tactics to combat this unprecedented threat. Simultaneously, Clark Kent faces a transformed Daily Planet, now a global multimedia conglomerate after merging with Morgan Edge's Galaxy Communications.
“Superman Unlimited builds on DC’s Superman legacy, much like Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness’s Superman/Batman in the early 2000s,” said DC group editor Paul Kaminski. “It delivers the classic high-flying adventures, while introducing a massive new Kryptonite deposit. Imagine robberies where every weapon is Kryptonite-based. This is a world of unparalleled danger, unlike anything Superman or the DC Superman family has faced.”
Kaminski continued, “We launched Justice League Unlimited last fall, with Mark Waid and Dan Mora showcasing unlimited heroes. In contrast, Slott and Albuquerque’s Superman Unlimited features unlimited, Kryptonite-empowered super-villains. Green K is everywhere. Superman must adapt to survive. Dan’s pitch is full of surprises, and Rafa’s art is stunning. 2025 will be truly Superman UNLIMITED.”
Slott and Albuquerque’s run begins with a 10-page prelude in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1 (May 3, 2025). Superman Unlimited #1 follows on May 21, preceding James Gunn's Superman film on July 11.
