According to a report by Deadline, the previously shelved Warner Bros. film Coyote vs. Acme might soon see a revival, thanks to negotiations with the Los Angeles-based independent film production and distribution company, Ketchup Entertainment. Although the deal has not been finalized yet, a successful negotiation could lead to a theatrical release of the movie in 2026.
Coyote vs. Acme, which was announced in 2022, is inspired by a 1990 New Yorker article by Ian Frazier. The film, co-written by James Gunn and featuring actors Will Forte and John Cena, was initially slated for a mid-2023 release on Max. However, it was shelved despite having completed filming, sparking a concerted campaign to save it that has been active ever since.
Ketchup Entertainment has a track record of rescuing films from cancellation. They previously saved Warner Bros.' The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie from a similar fate, securing it a theatrical release in the US. This film marks the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie to hit the big screen and has been described by IGN as a "laugh-out-loud riot."
Ketchup Entertainment's portfolio also includes releases such as Hellboy: The Crooked Man and the Robert Rodriguez thriller Hypnotic, starring Ben Affleck. Additionally, the company co-produced Michael Mann's 2023 Ferrari biopic, showcasing their commitment to diverse and engaging cinematic projects.
