Overture DLC Not Linked to Lies of P's Final Cutscene Reveal, Director Confirms

Author : Emma Update:Apr 28,2025

Ever since the announcement of the upcoming DLC for Lies of P, titled Overture, fans have been buzzing with speculation about the mysteries it might unveil. However, during the recent Game Developers Conference, IGN uncovered a significant detail: the much-discussed final cutscene from the base game will not be explained in this DLC.

For those yet to complete Lies of P, the final cutscene is a pivotal moment that hints at future directions for the game's universe. It's a surprising twist that has sparked numerous theories among fans about its implications and potential connections to the DLC. However, Lies of P director Jiwon Choi clarified that this particular scene is not related to the Overture DLC. He remained tight-lipped, only stating, "Please stay tuned for additional announcements in the future."

Given Neowiz's announcement of a full sequel to Lies of P, it's plausible that the enigmatic cutscene might be setting the stage for Lies of P 2. Yet, details about the sequel remain scarce, with Choi offering no additional hints during our conversation.

Choi emphasized Neowiz's commitment to quality, stating, "What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you."

PlayThe scene in question, which we discussed with Choi, is the "Dorothy scene." As detailed in our previous coverage, the final cutscene features Paracelsus speaking on the phone, mentioning he will "find her, for sure. Another key of ours: Dorothy." The scene then shifts to reveal the iconic striped socks and ruby slippers of Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, hinting that future Lies of P stories might intertwine with other public domain fairy tales. However, how or why this connection will be made remains unclear, and we now know it won't be addressed in Overture.

SPOILERS END HERE.

PlayWhile the Dorothy scene remains a mystery, Choi did offer some insights into what fans can expect from the Overture DLC. He encourages players to revisit the base game, suggesting that it contains clues about the upcoming content: "When you play through the base game again, you'll see many hints that we scattered throughout the whole experience," Choi explained. "A lot of hints and a lot of windows into the world, and you'll be able to actually see that and experience that in the expansion…There are many things that I actually wanted to accomplish when we were working on the base game. It didn't get put into the base game, and all of that, at least key elements of that are going to be included in the expansion."

Choi also noted that some fans are already on the right track, as he regularly engages with online fan theories, some of which he finds "quite close" to the truth.

Additionally, Choi shared that Overture is expected to take experienced players around 15-20 hours to complete. It will be accessible once players reach a "certain" chapter of the game and remain available until the end. As previously announced, Overture serves as a prequel, with the protagonist being transported back in time to Krat just before its fall. The DLC will introduce new locations, enemies, bosses, characters, and weapons, though Choi kept the specifics under wraps to maintain the excitement for the release.
