Rifts are rarely good news in games, but Avid Games has embraced the chaos in its highly anticipated title, Eerie Worlds, the follow-up to the popular Cards, the Universe and Everything. This tactical collectible card game (CCG) focuses on monsters emerging from these rifts, offering a blend of fun and educational elements.
Avid Games has crafted a visually diverse roster of monsters, drawing inspiration from global mythology and folklore.
The game boasts an impressive range of creatures, encompassing Japanese Yokai (like Jikininki and Kuchisake), Slavic monsters (such as Vodyanoy and Psoglav), and many others including Bigfoot, Mothman, and El Chupacabra. Each card features detailed, researched descriptions, adding a layer of educational engagement.
Eerie Worlds features four Alliances (Grimbald, Zerrofel, Rivin, and Synnig) and multiple Hordes, creating strategic depth through varied monster properties. Players build their "Grimoire," a personal monster collection, by merging duplicate cards from the initial 160 basic cards, with more to be added soon.
Avid Games plans to release two additional Hordes in the coming months, ensuring lasting replayability.
Gameplay involves a deck of nine monster cards and one world card, played over nine 30-second turns. Strategic decisions regarding mana management and synergy exploitation are key to victory.
