Both the 16" and 18" Area-51 gaming laptops are currently offered in a single configuration: the powerful Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU combined with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 GPU. The Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX stands out with a maximum turbo frequency of 5.4GHz, featuring 24 cores and 40MB of L2 cache. According to Passmark, this processor is the fastest available for laptops, outpacing the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D by 7%. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 mobile GPU, though not yet tested by us, reportedly outperforms the RTX 4080 by about 16% in 3DMark Time Spy benchmarks, as per VideoCardz.com. With DLSS 4.0 compatibility, this GPU promises to deliver exceptional performance, enabling you to enjoy any game at high frame rates on the QHD+ display.
The base configurations come equipped with your choice of a 16" or 18" QHD+ display, boasting refresh rates between 240Hz and 300Hz and G-Sync certification. You'll also get 32GB of DDR5-6400MHz RAM and a 1TB M.2 SSD. Both models offer upgrade options to 64GB RAM and 2TB storage.
The Area-51: New Style, More Power, Better Cooling
The 2025 Alienware Area-51 gaming laptop introduces a sleek magnesium alloy chassis with enhanced cooling to manage the latest high-performance components. This includes more fans, larger cutouts for improved airflow, increased use of copper, and a new thermal interface material for efficient heat dissipation. Dell asserts that the laptop can sustain a power ceiling of up to 240W TDP without compromising on acoustics.
Design-wise, the Area-51 sports smooth contours with rounded edges and soft corners, moving away from the typical squared-off look of many laptops. The hinges are cleverly positioned internally, making them nearly invisible. True to Alienware's style, the laptop offers extensive RGB LED lighting customization options. For connectivity, it includes three USB Type-A 3.2 15Gbps ports (one with PowerShare), two Thunderbolt / USB Type-C ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a card reader. The 16" model weighs 7.5 pounds, while the 18" model tips the scales at 9.6 pounds.
