Befriend The Dwarves In Stardew Valley

Author : Sadie Update:Jan 24,2025

This guide reveals the secrets to befriending the enigmatic Dwarf in Stardew Valley. While this solitary miner presents a unique challenge—requiring the player to learn Dwarvish—the reward is a fascinating addition to your in-game narrative.

Updated January 8, 2024: This guide reflects recent Stardew Valley updates (1.5 and 1.6), including changes to friendship mechanics and gift preferences.

Meeting the Dwarf

Dwarf's Boulder Locate the large boulder blocking access to the Dwarf's shop on the first floor of the mines. Destroy it using a copper pickaxe or a bomb to reveal his hidden dwelling.

Mastering Dwarvish

Dwarf Scroll Communication with the Dwarf necessitates learning his language. Collect all four Dwarf Scrolls (artifacts) and donate them to the Museum. Gunther will then provide you with a Dwarvish translation guide. Return to the mines and converse with the Dwarf; now, you can understand him and access his shop.

Gift Giving: The Key to Friendship

Dwarf's Gifts Gifts are paramount to building friendship with the Dwarf. Remember, he accepts up to two gifts weekly. His birthday (Summer 22nd) multiplies friendship points earned from gifts by eight.

Gift Preferences:

  • Loved (+80 Friendship Points):

    • Gemstones: Amethyst (), Aquamarine (), Jade (), Ruby (), Topaz (), Emerald ()
    • Lemon Stone ()
    • Omni Geode ()
    • Lava Eel ()
    • All universally loved gifts.
  • Liked (+45 Friendship Points):

    • All universally liked gifts.
    • All artifacts.
    • Cave Carrot ()
    • Quartz ()
  • Disliked/Hated (Friendship Point Reduction): Avoid giving mushrooms, foraged items, and universally hated gifts (excluding artifacts).

Movie Night Outings:

Movie Theater Once the Movie Theater is built, invite the Dwarf. He enjoys all movies but has specific snack preferences. He loves Stardrop Sorbet and Rock Candy, and likes Cotton Candy, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jawbreaker, Salmon Burger, Sour Slimes, and Star Cookie. Other snacks are disliked.
