Capcom Updates ‘Resident Evil 4′, ‘Resident Evil Village’, and ‘Resident Evil 7’ on iOS With Online DRM

Author : Savannah Update:Feb 25,2025

TouchArcade Rating: While updates for premium mobile ports often improve optimization or compatibility, Capcom's recent update (released an hour ago) for Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil Village on iOS and iPadOS introduces unwelcome online DRM. This DRM verifies purchase history upon game launch, checking for ownership of the game and any DLC. Refusal results in game closure. This necessitates an online connection for every launch, impacting offline playability, a significant drawback from previous versions.

Pre-update testing confirmed offline functionality. Post-update, the aforementioned alert (or a similar one) appears, forcing online verification. While some may not be bothered, this mandatory online check is a negative change for paid games. Ideally, Capcom should implement a less intrusive purchase verification method, perhaps checking less frequently. This update unfortunately diminishes the appeal of Capcom's premium mobile ports.

If you haven't purchased them yet, free trials are available. You can find Resident Evil 7 biohazard on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS here. Resident Evil 4 Remake is available on the App Store here, and Resident Evil Village here. Read my reviews here, here, and here. Do you own these three Resident Evil titles on iOS? What are your thoughts on this update?
