Sid Meier's Civilization VII ushers in a new era for the iconic turn-based strategy series, available across major gaming platforms. This guide clarifies its cross-play and cross-progression features.

Cross-Play:
Civilization VII supports cross-play, but with limitations. Players require an active 2K account linked to their chosen platforms. Cross-play functions seamlessly across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, macOS, and Linux, offering standard map sizes and player counts.
However, including a Nintendo Switch player in an online match restricts map sizes and player counts. The Switch version cannot support standard or larger maps. Multiplayer limits are four players in Antiquity and Exploration Ages, and six in the Modern Age. Therefore, while Switch cross-play is possible, be aware of these inherent limitations.
Cross-Progression:
Unlike the complexities of cross-play, Civilization VII's cross-progression is straightforward. With an active 2K account, progress is synchronized across all linked platforms. This means players can seamlessly transition between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and other platforms without restarting their game. This feature, absent in Civilization VI at launch, is a welcome addition to Civilization VII, reflecting modern gaming practices. Whether playing on a Steam Deck, Switch, PC, or console, your progress is consistently tracked.
Civilization VII launches February 11th.
