Pearl Abyss Rejects PS5 Exclusivity Deal for Crimson Desert, Opting for Independent Publishing
Pearl Abyss, the developer behind the anticipated action-adventure game Crimson Desert, has reportedly declined a PlayStation exclusivity deal with Sony. The decision to self-publish the game remains firm.
"As stated in our recent, publicly available earnings call, Crimson Desert will be independently published," Pearl Abyss confirmed in a statement to Eurogamer. "We value our partnerships and maintain ongoing communication regarding our progress and plans, exploring various collaborative opportunities."
Crimson Desert's Release Date and Platforms Remain Unconfirmed
While a playable build will be shown to media this week in Paris and to the public at G-Star in November, Pearl Abyss emphasizes that no release date has been set. Any reports suggesting otherwise are purely speculative.
September investor meetings revealed Sony's attempt to secure Crimson Desert as a PS5 exclusive, potentially delaying or preventing its release on Xbox. However, Pearl Abyss deemed self-publishing a more lucrative strategy.
Although final platform confirmation and a release date are pending, a PC, PlayStation, and Xbox launch is anticipated around Q2 2025.
