A Festive Surprise: Unexpected Decorations Light Up Destiny 1's Tower

Seven years after its initial release, Destiny 1's Tower has received a mysterious and unexpected update, adorned with festive lights and decorations. This surprising addition, seemingly accidental, has captivated players and sparked speculation within the community.

Destiny 1, though still accessible, largely ceded its prominence to Destiny 2 in 2017. While Destiny 2 has flourished with continuous updates and expansions, nostalgia for the original game persists among dedicated fans. Bungie's ongoing integration of legacy Destiny content into its sequel, including classic raids and exotic weapons, underscores this enduring appeal. However, this unexpected Tower update is a surprise even for those still actively playing Destiny 1.

On January 5th, players began reporting unusual decorations within the Tower hub. Ghost-shaped lights, reminiscent of past seasonal events like The Dawning, appeared, although the overall atmosphere lacked the typical snowy ambiance. The banners displayed also differed from previous live events, and no new quests or in-game messages accompanied the changes.

A Forgotten Event Emerges?

The lack of official communication from Bungie has fueled fan theories. Reddit users, including Breshi, pointed to a cancelled event, "Days of the Dawning," originally slated for 2016. Unused assets from this scrapped event bear a striking resemblance to the current Tower decorations, suggesting a possible connection. The theory posits that the event was assigned a future date, with the intention of later removal, under the assumption that Destiny 1 would no longer be active.

As of this writing, Bungie has remained silent. The year 2017 marked a significant transition for the franchise, with all live events migrating to Destiny 2. While not an official event, players are encouraged to enjoy this unexpected treat before it's potentially removed. This unexpected festive surprise offers a nostalgic moment for long-time fans and a unique experience for those who continue to explore the original Destiny.
