EA is naturally considering Nintendo Switch 2 as a platform for its game portfolio. During a recent earnings call, CEO Andrew Wilson directly addressed Nintendo's next-generation console, strongly hinting at planned releases for several EA titles on the platform.
Wilson specifically highlighted EA's profitable sports franchises - Madden and FC (formerly FIFA) - as having strong potential on Switch 2, while also identifying The Sims as another promising candidate.
"Any new console entering the market benefits us by expanding our player base," Wilson explained. "Historically, many of our franchises have performed exceptionally well on Nintendo platforms. We anticipate games like FC and Madden could gain significant traction, just as they have previously."
"Consider The Sims' performance - our My Sims bundle exceeded expectations with 50% of players being new to EA. That demonstrates the platform's potential for audience growth."
"While nothing's officially included in our projections yet, we're optimistic that this new hardware will introduce our IP to fresh communities."
While EA's sports titles like Madden and FC heading to Switch 2 seems inevitable, questions remain about which versions will be offered. Historically, Nintendo Switch received scaled-back "legacy" editions of FIFA, though recent FC installments have moved closer to feature parity. Given Switch 2's expected power boost, future releases like FC 26 might align more closely with PlayStation, Xbox, and PC counterparts.
With Nintendo officially acknowledging Switch 2's development, the gaming landscape is taking shape. Numerous third-party titles are rumored for the console, including praise from Civilization 7 developers regarding the system's reported Joy-Con mouse functionality. Publishers like Nacon (Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited) have confirmed prepared Switch 2 titles, while Hollow Knight: Silksong is strongly speculated for the platform.
Nintendo's own lineup includes a new Mario Kart in development, with more details likely to emerge during an anticipated April Nintendo Direct presentation.
