Hamaguchi highlighted the success of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in 2024, acknowledging its numerous accolades and global player engagement. The development team aims to broaden the FFVII fanbase with the third game, promising unique challenges for players.
Interestingly, Hamaguchi also mentioned Grand Theft Auto VI as a noteworthy game this year, expressing his admiration for the Rockstar Games team and acknowledging the immense pressure they face following GTA V's phenomenal success.
Specific details regarding the third installment remain undisclosed; however, Hamaguchi assures fans that development is progressing smoothly. While the team is currently focused on the recently released Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Hamaguchi promises a distinctive experience for players in the next game.
Despite the positive outlook for the sequel, Final Fantasy XVI's May 2024 launch sales underperformed, falling short of projected targets for the fiscal year. Exact sales figures for both Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth remain unannounced, although Square Enix has clarified that they don't view Rebirth's sales as a complete failure, and that Final Fantasy XVI still has potential to meet its sales goals within the allotted 18-month timeframe.
