Formovie Episode One Hardware Reviewed: Projection Excellence?

Author : Nathan Update:May 17,2025

At Droid Gamers, we receive a wide array of gadgets, but a projector was a delightful surprise. The Formovie Episode One, with its promise of streaming mobile games on a larger screen, caught our attention as a perfect fit for tech enthusiasts looking to enhance their gaming experience.

Designed for those on a tighter budget, the Episode One delivers on its promise while keeping costs down. Despite a few hiccups, it stands out as a budget-friendly option. In the box, you'll find the projector, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. While it may not have the heft of pricier models, its lightweight design—weighing just three pounds—makes it highly portable and easy to take on the go.

For connectivity, the Episode One keeps things simple with one USB-A port, one HDMI port, and a single audio jack. This minimalistic approach is expected at this price point and should suffice for most users' needs.

Performance-wise, the Episode One holds its own, featuring 150 ISO lumens. While it's not the brightest projector on the market, it performs admirably in darker settings, which is expected but reassuring. Our tests showed that it struggled in direct sunlight but delivered clear visuals for movies, TV shows, and streamed games in dimmer conditions. For the best image quality, we recommend positioning the projector at least 10 feet away from the screen. The built-in speaker, however, leaves something to be desired with its tinny sound; pairing it with an external speaker would enhance your audio experience.

The user interface is one of the Episode One's strong points, offering a straightforward setup and user-friendly operation. Its budget-friendly approach actually simplifies the experience compared to some more expensive, complicated projectors we've encountered.

In conclusion, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent entry-level projector. It may not excel in any single area, but it's a reliable all-rounder that meets the needs of most casual users. If you're looking to dip your toes into the world of projectors without breaking the bank, the Episode One is a solid choice.
