The iconic Master Chief, star of the Halo franchise and a popular Fortnite skin, recently returned to the item shop after a two-year hiatus, much to the delight of fans. However, a controversy quickly arose concerning the Matte Black style, originally exclusive to Xbox Series S|X players.
Initially advertised as permanently obtainable, Epic Games unexpectedly announced the style's discontinuation. This sparked considerable backlash, with some players even threatening legal action, claiming potential legal violations.
Fortunately, Epic Games reversed its decision within 24 hours. The Matte Black style is now available to all Master Chief skin owners who play a single game on an Xbox Series S|X console.
This reversal appears to be the most sensible outcome, especially given the holiday season. A sudden, negative change likely would have soured the festive mood for many players.
