Gears of War: Reloaded's release date has been announced, and it's launching on PS5 the same day as Xbox. Dive into the details of its multiplatform release and discover the enhancements fans can expect from this much-anticipated game.
Gears of War: Reloaded Release Date Announced
Multiplatform Release
Gears of War has long been a cherished Xbox exclusive, renowned as one of the flagship titles on the Microsoft console. In an exciting turn of events, Xbox announced via a Twitter (X) post on May 6 that Gears of War: Reloaded will launch on all platforms on August 26, including the PS5.
Xbox's move underscores their commitment to broadening access to their exclusive titles across different platforms. In a January interview with GamerTag Radio, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer reinforced this strategy, stating, "We love our platform and our hardware, but we're not going to put walls up where people can engage with the great games our studios are building."
This approach hints that the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day might also see a multiplatform release on the same day as PS5, following in Reloaded's footsteps. However, Xbox has not yet confirmed this, leaving fans to wait and see what the future holds for other Xbox exclusives.
Faithful Remaster and Natively Optimized
The announcement of Reloaded caught fans by surprise, given that the original game had already been remastered with Gears of War: Ultimate Edition in 2015. In an Xbox Wire post on May 5, The Coalition’s Studio Head Mike Crump detailed what players can anticipate with this new release.
Crump emphasized, "As we approach the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we’re reflecting on what this franchise means. It’s about the stories we’ve told, the friendships we’ve built, and the unforgettable moments we’ve shared together. With Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re opening that door to more players than ever."
Gears of War: Reloaded boasts significant performance enhancements over its 2015 predecessor. While the Ultimate Edition ran at 1080p and 30fps in campaign mode, with 60fps in multiplayer, Reloaded ups the ante with 4K resolution at 60fps for campaign and 120fps in multiplayer. The game also features 4K assets, remastered textures, enhanced post-processing visual effects, improved shadows and reflections, and more.
According to the post, "Players will gain immediate access to all post-launch downloadable content at no additional cost — this includes the bonus Campaign act, all multiplayer maps and modes, and a full roster of classic characters and cosmetics unlockable through progression."
Additionally, Reloaded offers a free upgrade for those who owned The Ultimate Edition before the game’s announcement. Eligible Xbox account holders will receive a code for the upgrade via direct message before the launch.
Gears of War: Reloaded is set to launch on August 26. It will be priced at $39.99 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. The game will be available on day one with Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass.
