Reaching max level in Rune Slayer often leads adventurers to the formidable Hill Troll. This hulking beast isn't just a great source of experience points; it also drops valuable early-game endgame loot. The challenge? Finding its lair. This guide reveals the Hill Troll's location and provides strategies for conquering this challenging foe.
Hill Troll Location in Rune Slayer
The Hill Troll resides within a hidden cave nestled in the mountainside of Bahlgar. The easiest route is via the Lakeshire elevator. Descend to Bahlgar, following the path you'd normally take to encounter Beastmen. Instead of engaging the Beastmen, hug the mountain's wall, circling past two platinum deposits. The cave entrance is visible on one of the mountain's sides. You'll need to jump into this opening—a mount is highly recommended—to access the cave. While it may sound tricky, it becomes routine with practice. See our GIF for a visual walkthrough (we even joined a group battle!).

Hill Troll – Strategy, Loot, and Quests
Despite its intimidating appearance, the Hill Troll is a relatively manageable mini-boss, though you'll likely face it repeatedly. Therefore, it’s crucial to avoid solo encounters. Team up—even with just one other player—as many players farm the Troll frequently. Fortunately, it respawns every 90 seconds after defeat.

The Hill Troll attacks with a powerful, albeit slow, pillar. Most attacks can be parried or blocked; however, when it raises the pillar overhead with both hands, evade immediately as this attack stuns. Consistent damage can stagger the Troll. Warrior class players can effectively stun the Troll with a well-timed Counter.
While extremely rare equipment is a possibility, focus on farming Troll Hides and Troll Heads. Troll Hides are crucial for crafting substantial endgame equipment, providing a solid upgrade before tackling tougher bosses like the Mother Spider. The Troll Head serves as a quest item for the repeatable Hodor quest. Hourly, you can deliver a Troll Head to Hodor (located near the cave) for a chance at powerful gear.

Can You Tame the Hill Troll in Rune Slayer?
No, the Hill Troll cannot be tamed, even for Beast Tamer Archers. Its size and mini-boss status make it unsuitable as a pet. The Mud Crab remains a more practical choice for Beast Tamer Archers.
