Hungry Horrors: Steam Demo Out Now, Mobile Soon

Get ready for a deliciously unique gaming experience with Hungry Horrors, the upcoming roguelite deckbuilder from Clumsy Bear Studio, a creative UK-based game developer. In this quirky twist on the genre, you won't be battling monsters; instead, you'll be cooking up a storm to satisfy their insatiable appetites. The first playable demo of Hungry Horrors is now available on Steam, with plans to expand to mobile and console platforms in the future. Although an official release date hasn't been announced yet, you can dive into the demo on Steam, Itch, or GOG. The developers have been actively engaging with the community, showcasing the game at events like the London Game Festival 2025.

The Steam demo offers a tantalizing glimpse into what's to come, featuring two handcrafted biomes, six hungry monsters to serve, two boss fights, and four NPCs to interact with. You can also explore non-combat zones such as the Nook and the Trove, where you can regroup and refine your culinary strategies.

More About Hungry Horrors

In Hungry Horrors, you take on the role of a princess tasked with preparing traditional British and Irish dishes to appease folklore creatures who might otherwise consider you their next meal. This innovative game brilliantly blends deckbuilding mechanics with the art of cooking, all wrapped in a retro pixel art style with gothic undertones. The humor in the game is a standout feature, as you whip up dishes like Bara Brith and Cranachan to cater to the finicky tastes of legendary monsters.

You'll encounter creatures that have been terrorizing folklore for centuries, such as Jenny Greenteeth, the swamp witch with a penchant for blood, and Black Annis, the child-snatching hag with iron claws. If your culinary creations don't meet their expectations, you could end up on their menu! The game challenges you to discern the likes and dislikes of each monster, from Grendel's sweet tooth to Redcap's aversion to fish.

The deckbuilding aspect adds a strategic layer to the gameplay. You'll combine ingredients and utilize utensils, spices, and herbs to enhance your dishes, carefully balancing flavors and planning your menu. As you progress, you'll unlock new recipes, ingredients, legendary artifacts, and even rescued familiars to aid you on your culinary journey.
