Capcom's latest Monster Hunter title shattered records within minutes of its Steam release. A staggering 675,000 concurrent players were logged within 30 minutes, quickly surpassing 1 million. This achievement marks not only the most successful launch in Monster Hunter history, but also Capcom's most successful game launch ever, dwarfing the previous record of 334,000 concurrent players set by Monster Hunter: World (2018). Monster Hunter Rise (2022) trails behind with 230,000. Despite this phenomenal success, the game has encountered a significant backlash on Steam due to numerous technical problems, including bugs and frequent crashes.
Monster Hunter Wilds presents a self-contained narrative, perfect for newcomers to the series. The game unfolds in a perilous world teeming with formidable creatures, where players unravel the secrets of the Forbidden Lands. This journey introduces the legendary "White Ghost," a mythical beast, and the intriguing Guardians, who add layers of complexity to the storyline.
While pre-release reviews were largely positive, some critics voiced concerns about the simplification of gameplay mechanics, suggesting this was done to broaden the game's appeal. However, many players and reviewers view these adjustments favorably, arguing that accessibility was enhanced without compromising depth or quality.
