Let the demon hunting begin! Netflix is bringing the iconic video game series Devil May Cry to life with a new anime adaptation, and fans are in for a treat with a brand-new trailer that has just been released. Adding to the excitement, the late legendary voice actor Kevin Conroy will posthumously star in the series, lending his voice to a new character, VP Baines, heard in the trailer's opening voiceover.
Conroy, renowned for voicing Bruce Wayne and Batman in numerous animated projects, was last celebrated for his posthumous performance in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 3 back in July 2024. His inclusion in Devil May Cry offers fans another opportunity to appreciate his remarkable talent following his passing in November 2022 at the age of 66. Joining Conroy in the cast are Scout Taylor-Compton as Mary, Hoon Lee as White Rabbit, Chris Coppola as Enzo, and Johnny Yong Bosch, who voices the protagonist, Dante.
According to the official synopsis from Netflix, "Sinister forces are at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck."
Adi Shankar, known for his work on films like the 2012 Dredd reboot, Killing Them Softly, and The Voices, will serve as the showrunner for the series. Shankar is also involved in an upcoming Assassin’s Creed adaptation, though its release remains uncertain despite being announced in 2017.
The animation for Devil May Cry is being handled by Studio Mir, a South Korean studio celebrated for their work on The Legend of Korra and X-Men ‘97. The series is set to premiere on Netflix on April 3, 2025, promising a thrilling addition to the anime lineup with its blend of action, intrigue, and homage to a beloved gaming franchise.
