Lionsgate's upcoming Monopoly movie has taken an exciting turn with the announcement of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein as the screenwriters. Known for their work on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, this dynamic duo brings a wealth of experience to the project, having also penned and directed the original film Mayday, as well as contributed to scripts for The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The film, which is based on Hasbro's iconic board game, will be produced by Margot Robbie under her production company, LuckyChap. This marks another significant step forward for the long-discussed Monopoly movie, which has been in the works for years. Previous attempts to bring the game to the big screen saw interest from Ridley Scott in 2007, followed by script development by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski in 2011, and another version penned by Andrew Niccol in 2015. There were also reports of Kevin Hart and director Tim Story being involved in 2019.
However, it appears that Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro has revitalized the project, setting the stage for Daley and Goldstein to craft a fresh narrative. Fans of the classic game can look forward to seeing how this new version of the Monopoly film will unfold, hopefully passing Go with flying colors.
