Following its release in late 2024, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has achieved significant sales success, surpassing 200,000 units sold. This remaster of the beloved action game has attracted fans eager to relive the classic despite initial technical issues and concerns about censorship.
Developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, the original creators of the unique action game series including No More Heroes, Lollipop Chainsaw casts players as a cheerleader wielding a chainsaw against zombies. The remaster, however, was handled by Dragami Games, who enhanced the game with quality-of-life improvements and a significant visual upgrade.
Several months post-launch in September 2024, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has sold over 200,000 copies across all platforms, from current to last-gen systems and PC. This milestone was proudly announced by Dragami Games via a tweet.
Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Developers Celebrate The Game's Sales Success
The narrative of Lollipop Chainsaw follows Juliet Starling, a San Romero High School cheerleader and secret zombie hunter, as she combats an undead invasion at her school. Players navigate through hordes of zombies and face unique bosses in hack-and-slash combat reminiscent of titles like Bayonetta.
The original release of Lollipop Chainsaw on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012 was even more successful, reportedly selling over a million units. The game's charm likely stemmed from the collaboration between game designer Goichi Suda and filmmaker James Gunn, who contributed to the story and writing.
Currently, there's no word on additional content or a sequel following the sales success of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP. However, the positive reception bodes well for remasters of niche titles. Another title from Grasshopper Manufacture, Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, also recently saw an update, bringing the action-horror game to modern platforms and audiences.
