NetEase's Marvel Rivals mistakenly bans innocent players. The developer, NetEase, issued a public apology for wrongly banning numerous players who were using compatibility layers like those for macOS, Linux, and Steam Deck. These players were flagged as cheaters during a recent anti-cheat sweep. The bans have since been lifted.

The incident highlights the challenges of anti-cheat systems in detecting legitimate gameplay from software compatibility layers. Proton, the SteamOS compatibility layer, is known for triggering false positives in some anti-cheat software.

Meanwhile, a separate issue concerns the in-game character ban mechanic. Currently, this feature is only available to Diamond rank players and above. Lower-ranked players are voicing frustration on Reddit, arguing that implementing character bans across all ranks would improve gameplay balance and provide valuable learning opportunities for newer players. NetEase has yet to officially respond to this feedback.
