Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision
Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision to implement mid-season rank resets. The developer announced the change in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the negative reception of Dev Talk 10, which detailed a plan to reset player ranks four divisions down every 45 days.
Players had voiced concerns that this frequent resetting was discouraging and detrimental to competitive progression. In response, Marvel Rivals confirmed that there will be no mid-season rank reset. Players will retain their current rank and score from the first half of the season. End-of-season resets, however, will still occur, dropping players six divisions.
Other Planned Updates Remain
Despite the rank reset reversal, other updates are still on track. The addition of Human Torch and The Thing, bringing the total roster to 39 heroes, is proceeding as planned. NetEase Games continues its commitment to releasing two new playable characters per three-month season.
Rewards for players reaching Gold rank and above will remain unchanged, with a free Invisible Woman costume for Gold rank and above, and Crests of Honor for Grandmaster and above. Additional end-of-season rewards will be introduced for reaching Gold rank, including another free costume and Crests of Honor for Grandmaster and above. Balance adjustments are also planned, though specifics haven't yet been revealed.
Community Response and Developer Acknowledgement
The speed of Marvel Rivals' response to player feedback was widely praised. The developer acknowledged the community's concerns and emphasized its commitment to listening to player input. The statement highlighted the importance of community engagement in shaping the game's development.
The mid-season update is scheduled for release on February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
