NetEase Games is making significant changes to the post-launch roadmap for Marvel Rivals, aiming to keep the game's live service momentum strong. The company has announced plans to shorten its seasons and commit to releasing at least one new hero each month. This update to the content release schedule was previewed in the Marvel Rivals Season 2 Dev Vision Vol. 5 video, which also provided details about the upcoming Season 2.
Season 2, set to launch on April 11, will introduce Emma Frost as the new Vanguard. Mid-season, players can look forward to Ultron, whose class will be revealed closer to his release. Both heroes are expected to bring exciting new abilities to the game. However, the most substantial changes to the hero lineup and their impact on gameplay will start with Season 3.
In Marvel Rivals Season 3, which does not yet have a confirmed release date, NetEase plans to reduce season lengths from three months to two. This adjustment will allow for more rapid content updates while maintaining the promise of at least one new hero every half-season. This means players won't have to wait as long for new heroes after the initial launch of each season.
Marvel Rivals creative director Guangyun Chen shared in the Dev Vision video that the team has been contemplating ways to keep the game engaging since the launch of Season 1. Social media feedback has added pressure to maintain the game's excitement. Chen emphasized the goal of fulfilling fans' fantasies about Marvel Super Heroes by introducing new modes and a diverse roster of characters. NetEase will adjust its systems to handle the increased content flow, with more details to be shared before Season 3's launch.
NetEase recently unveiled details about Marvel Rivals Season 2, transitioning from a vampire takeover theme to a new storyline centered around the Hellfire Gala. This shift will bring new outfits, maps, and characters, with further information to be disclosed in the coming weeks.
Since its launch in December, Marvel Rivals has been a massive success, attracting 10 million players in just three days. The game was released on December 6 across PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. On Steam alone, it achieved 480,990 concurrent players at launch, and Season 1 in January saw an impressive peak of 644,269 concurrent players, ranking it as the 15th most-played game on Valve's platform. Despite a recent decline in concurrent players, Marvel Rivals remains highly popular and continues to be one of Steam's top games. The launch of Season 2 is anticipated to boost player engagement, with further excitement expected from Season 3.
