Monster Hunter Wilds Nears 1 Million Peak Concurrent Players on Steam — and It’s Only Going to Get Bigger From Here

Author : Lucy Update:May 05,2025

Monster Hunter Wilds has stormed onto the scene with a phenomenal launch, boasting nearly 1 million concurrent players on Steam. This action-packed adventure from Capcom has made its debut on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, swiftly climbing to become the eighth most-played game on Steam with an astounding 987,482 concurrent users. To put this into perspective, it has surpassed the all-time peak concurrent numbers of top-selling titles like Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, and Baldur's Gate 3. Remarkably, it has already eclipsed the peak concurrent figure of its predecessor, Monster Hunter World, which reached 334,684 in 2018. Keep in mind, the true peak concurrent figure for Monster Hunter Wilds is likely to be even higher, as neither Sony nor Microsoft disclose their player counts.

The burning question now is how high the Steam concurrent figure will soar as Monster Hunter Wilds enters its first weekend on sale and continues into the future. There's a strong possibility that it will surpass the 1 million concurrent players mark later today, overtaking Cyberpunk 2077 in the process. Could it even reach the ambitious goal of 2 million players?

Although Capcom has not yet released official sales figures for Monster Hunter Wilds, all indications suggest a tremendously successful launch. To put this into context, Monster Hunter World achieved over 25 million sales within six years, securing its place as Capcom's top-selling game of all time. However, the game currently holds a 'mixed' user review rating on Steam, with some players citing performance issues.

IGN's review of Monster Hunter Wilds awarded it an 8/10, stating, "Monster Hunter Wilds continues to smooth off the rougher corners of the series in smart ways, making for some extremely fun fights but also lacking any real challenge."
