Obtaining Filler Metal in NieR: Automata: A Comprehensive Guide
Acquiring certain upgrade materials in NieR: Automata proves more challenging than others. Many are enemy drops, but some, like Filler Metal, are randomly spawned throughout the game world. This inherent randomness makes farming these items a test of patience.
Early in the game, Filler Metal requires exploration of specific overworld locations. Later, purchasing it becomes an option, albeit a costly one.
Locating Filler Metal
Filler Metal is a rare item found in designated spawn points deep within the Factory. Its location varies with each playthrough, and its spawn rate is lower than other items. Unlocking the "Factory: Hanger" access point (after returning to the Factory during the main story) provides a convenient starting point for your search. Note that you might need to unlock this access point again depending on your story progression.
While movement speed boosts can marginally improve farming efficiency, reliably farming Filler Metal remains impossible. Your best approach is to thoroughly explore the Factory, collecting all naturally spawned items. However, purchasing it offers a more straightforward, albeit expensive, solution.
Purchasing Filler Metal
The only vendor selling Filler Metal is the Shopkeeper Machine in the Amusement Park. However, this option only unlocks after completing one of the game's final endings (requiring all three playthroughs). Using Chapter Select after completing the game will restock the Shopkeeper's inventory, offering Filler Metal at a price of 11,250 G each.
Despite the high cost, purchasing Filler Metal provides a significantly more reliable method than repeated Factory runs. The Pod upgrades requiring Filler Metal are crucial for completing the game, as enemies scale to high levels.
