Nintendo has recently announced the upgrade costs for two more games transitioning from the original Nintendo Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. Unfortunately, these upgrades come with a hefty price tag, significantly higher than what was seen with previous titles.
For context, upgrading from the original Switch version to the Switch 2 Edition of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom each costs $9.99. However, NintendoLife has highlighted that the upgrades for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are more than double that price.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild boasts improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service in the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version can purchase an "upgrade pack" for $10 to enjoy these enhancements.
The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content titled "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition includes a new feature called "Jamboree TV," which leverages the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, the Switch 2 microphone, and the Switch 2 USB-C camera (sold separately). These editions also offer upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functions.
While the U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are not yet available, possibly due to ongoing tariff uncertainties related to President Trump's policies, the UK Nintendo eShop lists the upgrade pack for Kirby and the Forgotten Land at £16.99 / €19.99. This is more than double the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. The same price applies to the Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade, suggesting a potential U.S. price of $19.99.
The higher upgrade costs may be linked to the $80 price tag of both Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV. These games are $20 more expensive than their original Switch versions, which are priced at $59.99 each.
For those not upgrading, here are the prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games in the U.S.:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
- Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99
It's worth noting that subscribers to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack can upgrade Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom at no additional cost. Unfortunately, no such offer exists for Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree at this time.
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders, priced at $449.99, went live on April 24 and were met with high demand. Nintendo has warned U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store that release date delivery is not guaranteed due to the overwhelming interest.
