Nintendo has unveiled a refreshed appearance for Diddy Kong, following the earlier redesign of his iconic counterpart, Donkey Kong. Earlier this year, fans noticed subtle alterations to Donkey Kong's design in official artwork and in the initial footage of Mario Kart World.
Now, Diddy Kong has also undergone a makeover, as evidenced by new artwork on Nintendo's website and brand images showcased at Licensing Expo 2025 in Las Vegas. The updated Diddy Kong sports a more cartoonish appearance, featuring rounder eyes and a cheekier, friendlier smile.
As reported by Nintendo Life, the new images reveal these changes. Visitors at Licensing Expo 2025, where brands showcase their franchises to secure merchandising and partnership deals, can also view the revamped Diddy and Donkey Kong, as captured in photos shared by attendee Cptn_Alex on social media.Image credit: Nintendo.

Even Princess Peach has seen a slight redesign, with her appearance on the box art of her Switch game, Princess Peach: Showtime!, resembling her big screen counterpart, as previously noted by IGN's sister site, Eurogamer.
Of course this post is popping off lmao. Here’s a better look at the new render :)

Donkey Kong is set to star in the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 title, Donkey Kong Bananza. Although Diddy Kong's involvement has not been confirmed, the inclusion of other Kong family members like Cranky Kong, combined with the recent update to Diddy's look, suggests a strong possibility of his inclusion.
Furthermore, the upcoming sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, tentatively titled Super Mario World, is expected to feature more of Nintendo's beloved apes, with their new designs likely to be showcased.
