DC Studios' head, James Gunn, has officially announced that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. Alongside this exciting news, Gunn shared a brief snippet of new footage featuring John Cena in character, smirking amidst a blazing fire, with a voice-over declaring him as "a superhero now."
In a tweet, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating that the Season 2 premiere is "one of my favorite things ever." This announcement comes hot on the heels of the July 11 release of the much-anticipated Superman film, marking the grand launch of Gunn's rebooted DCU. Peacemaker Season 2 will be the third installment in this new universe, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman movie.
Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DC franchise away from the criticized DC Extended Universe, which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the old universe will carry over into the new. Peacemaker is a prime example of this continuity, having debuted in the DCEU with its first season and now transitioning into the DCU with its second.
Gunn has emphasized that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though specifics about what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He has confirmed that the entire Team Peacemaker will return, with John Cena reprising his lead role, joined by Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
Additionally, Gunn has noted that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting the storyline of Peacemaker. This integration promises a cohesive narrative across the evolving DCU.
Counting down the days until this thrilling continuation hits the screens, fans can look forward to a seamless blend of action, humor, and superhero antics in Peacemaker Season 2.
