PlatinumGames Celebrates Bayonetta

PlatinumGames is commemorating the 15th anniversary of the iconic game *Bayonetta* with a yearlong celebration dedicated to its loyal fanbase. Originally launched on October 29, 2009, in Japan and in January 2010 worldwide, *Bayonetta* was directed by the renowned Hideki Kamiya, known for his work on *Devil May Cry* and *Viewtiful Joe*. In this title, players assume the role of Bayonetta, a formidable Umbra Witch who battles supernatural foes with guns, exaggerated martial arts, and her magically-enhanced hair.

The debut *Bayonetta* game received widespread acclaim for its inventive storyline and dynamic, fast-paced action reminiscent of *Devil May Cry*. Bayonetta quickly became a celebrated female anti-hero in the gaming world. While the initial release was published by Sega and available on various platforms, the subsequent sequels shifted to Nintendo's ecosystem, being exclusive to the Wii U and Nintendo Switch. Additionally, a prequel, *Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon*, was introduced on the Switch in 2023, showcasing a younger version of the protagonist. Bayonetta's adult incarnation also made her mark as a playable character in the latest *Super Smash Bros.* games.

Bayonetta's 15th Anniversary Celebrations in 2025

As 2025 marks the 15th anniversary of *Bayonetta*, PlatinumGames has expressed their gratitude to fans through a special message. They announced the "Bayonetta 15th Anniversary Year," a yearlong event filled with exciting announcements and themed products. While specific details about the 2025 plans are yet to be fully disclosed, PlatinumGames encourages fans to stay updated via social media for forthcoming news.

Special Bayonetta Merchandise and Events

To kick off the anniversary festivities, Wayo Records has launched a limited-edition Bayonetta music box. This unique item is adorned with a design inspired by the original *Bayonetta*'s Super Mirror and plays the melody of "Theme Of Bayonetta - Mysterious Destiny," composed by the celebrated Masami Ueda, known for his work on *Resident Evil* and *Okami*. Additionally, PlatinumGames is offering exclusive Bayonetta-themed smartphone calendar wallpapers monthly, with January's edition showcasing Bayonetta and Jeanne in kimonos under a full moon.

Even after 15 years, the original *Bayonetta* remains a benchmark for stylish action games, having refined the genre with innovative features like the slow-motion Witch Time mechanic. This game laid the groundwork for future PlatinumGames projects, including *Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance* and *Nier: Automata*. As the 15th anniversary year unfolds, fans are encouraged to keep an eye out for further announcements and special events celebrating this milestone in gaming history.
