League of Legends has launched an exciting new in-client minigame available through April. Fans of Balatro will instantly recognize the mechanics behind the Demon's Hand card game mode.
Demon's Hand Setup and Basics
Ensure your League client is fully updated, then navigate to the Play button and select Demon's Hand from the game mode menu. The mode begins with an introductory story before launching you into your first card battle.
Your card hand appears along the bottom row of the interface. The bottom-right corner displays your health, coin count, and critical hit percentage. Above this sits your Sigil box, which can hold up to six special effects (initially empty). Unlike standard matches, health doesn't regenerate between battles - visit tent locations on the map for healing opportunities.
Gameplay Mechanics
The enemy card appears at the top of the screen, displaying its health (bottom-right) and attack damage (bottom-left). An attack counter shows how many turns remain before the enemy strikes. The left edge features a rulebook detailing all possible poker hands and their base damage values.
Card Hands and Damage System
- Solo = High Card (10 Damage)
- Dyad = Pair (20 Damage)
- Dyad Set = Two Pair (40 Damage)
- Triad = Three of a Kind (80 Damage)
- Tetrad = Four of a Kind (100 Damage)
- March = Straight (125 Damage)
- Horde = Flush (175 Damage)
- Grand Warhost = Full House (400 Damage)
- Marching Horde = Straight Flush (600 Damage)
- The Demon's Hand = Royal Flush (2000 Damage)
Card values add bonus damage to each hand's base output. Some enemies block specific suits - these cards remain playable but won't contribute numerical value to attacks.
Enhancing Gameplay with Sigils
Sigils provide strategic advantages when purchased during store phases (marked by coin icons on the map). Earn coins by defeating enemies, then spend them on Sigils that offer various enhancements: increasing specific hand damage, granting extra turns, or reducing incoming damage.
