PlayStation Plus subscribers will get five extra days for free

Sony addressed the nearly day-long PlayStation Network (PSN) outage this past weekend, attributing it to an unspecified "operational issue." The company offered no further explanation regarding the root cause or preventative measures.

To compensate affected users, PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive a five-day extension to their subscriptions, automatically applied to their accounts.

The outage severely impacted gameplay, with over one-third of players unable to log in and widespread reports of server crashes.

Sony's requirement of a PSN account, even for single-player PC games, has been a point of contention for players, and this outage only reinforces those concerns.

This isn't the first major PSN disruption. The April 2011 data breach resulted in over 20 days of connectivity problems. While this recent incident was less severe, the lack of detailed communication from Sony has left many PS5 users dissatisfied.
