"Pre-Hunt Meals: Cooking and Eating in Monster Hunter Wilds"

Monster hunting is a challenging endeavor, and being properly prepared is key, especially when it comes to fueling up with a nutritious meal. Here's a detailed guide on how to cook and eat your own meals in *Monster Hunter Wilds*.

Cooking and Eating Meals in Monster Hunter Wilds

Unlike previous games such as *World* and *Rise*, where you could rely on a friendly Palico NPC to prepare your meals, *Monster Hunter Wilds* requires you to take matters into your own hands. You have two primary options for cooking:

  • By cooking in your tent
  • By using the Portable BBQ Grill

When you accept a new quest, take a moment to prepare. I recommend heading to your tent, navigating to the BBQ Menu by pressing L1 or R1, and selecting the "Grill a Meal" option. Alternatively, you can access the Portable BBQ Grill from your inventory, press the square button to use it, and start cooking from there.

Which Meals to Cook?

In the cooking menu, you have the choice between recommended, custom, or favorite meals. Recommended meals are straightforward, typically consisting of a Ration and any additional ingredients you have on hand. Cooking solely with Rations grants you a 30-minute buff that includes +50 Health, +150 Stamina, and +2 Attack. Adding extra ingredients extends the duration by an additional 20 minutes.

While the recommended meal offers a solid foundation for your hunt, for a more tailored experience, opt for the custom meal option. Here, you can select one Ration (meat, fish, or veggies), one ingredient, and your finishing touches. Each type of Ration provides unique buffs, such as increased attack, defense, or elemental resistances.

Ingredients and finishing touches enhance your meals further, offering benefits like improved gathering efficiency or reduced damage taken. Once you've made your choices, start cooking, and your Hunter will automatically consume the meal, ready to tackle the hunt ahead.

And that's how you cook and eat meals in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. For more tips and information on the game, be sure to visit The Escapist.
